Our approach to design is generally to keep it simple. While it is fun and interesting to play with all the latest cool techniques and trends in web design, it is important to not forget why the site or page exists. Most of the time for marketing sites or business apps, the goal is to get the visitor to read the content, understand what you’re offering, and ultimately to do business with you. Everything on a page must be in service of that goal and not distract the visitor from it.
Design & Prototyping Tools
When designing for the web, we like to use pencil/paper and Figma for the screen designs, Photoshop for image manipulation and Illustrator for graphics. This is a fairly standard toolset for this type of work.
Web Development Tools
Once we have a good idea of what we’re building, it’s time to make it reality! Modern web sites and apps ultimately consist of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. There may be embedded videos, animations, images and other graphics as well.
We prefer to use the ReactJS library along with or Remix as the framework for the site. We also have extensive experience using Gatsby and Vue. We strongly favor writing code in Typescript rather than directly in Javascript.
For styling, we really like CSS utility tools like TailwindCSS.
We try to avoid using full-blown component libraries like MUI or React Bootstrap. We feel that building on top of “headless” components usually works out best in the long run.
There are a ton of options and choices involved with building for the web. We’re flexible. These are just a few of our current preferences & strengths.
